Vietnam: Typhoon Kalmaegi Brings Damaging Winds and Heavy Rain to Central Region

Typhoon Kalmaegi made landfall in central Vietnam, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to regions already hit by recent floods. At least one person has died, several are missing, and homes and power lines were damaged. Flooding occurred in Dak Lak and thousands were evacuated as authorities remain on high alert for further floods and landslides.

The screen, called ''Araiso'' (Rocky Beach) and painted by Japanese artist Hyakusui Hirafuku (1877-1933), was presented to Mussolini after being displayed at an exhibition in Rome of Japanese art organized by Okura in 1930. It depicts a bird on a bare rock against a gold background.

TOKYO, Japan - Andre Lecomte, a French chef in Tokyo who counted visiting world leaders among his customers, died of a heart attack in Tokyo on Aug. 6, his family says on Aug. 8. He was 68. A native of the Loire Department in central France, Lecomte comes to Japan in 1963 to work as a chef at the Hotel Okura in Tokyo. TOKYO, Japan - Hotel staff from Okinawa Prefecture begin six days of training at Tokyo's Hotel Okura on Jan. 24 to host world leaders and government officials during the Group of Eight (G-8) summit scheduled for July 21-23 in the prefecture's city of Nago. The Foreign Ministry asked the Okura to hold the training seminar because it has experience in hosting important guests, including delegates to previous summits in Tokyo.
